Acne Treatment
in Orlando, FL

Acne is a stubborn condition that makes your skin look unhealthy. You have probably tried many products to keep your skin clean and clear of blemishes but had little success. Even if you manage to get rid of your acne, you may have scars and frequent breakouts. Located in Orlando, CPRS Med Spa, led by board-certified plastic surgeon Kendall Peters, MD, FACS, has a medical aesthetician who helps teenagers and adults in Orange County and Central Florida find the right combination of acne treatments and skin care.

Many people believe that acne treatment is simply finding the right way to keep your skin clean, but several factors can cause blemishes. In order to have beautiful, flawless skin, you need to use treatments that target the specific cause of your particular type of acne. Our medical aesthetician is able to determine the reason that you have acne and recommend treatments that clear blemishes and improve the overall health of your skin.

What is Acne?

In the most basic terms, acne starts with having excess oils in your pores. The oils bind with dirt and debris to clog the pores. As your skin continues to develop oils, the pore becomes enlarged and forms bumps on the skin that are categorized as:

  • Inflamed nodules beneath the surface of the skin
  • Small whiteheads that are white or flesh-colored and appear on the surface of the skin
  • Tiny blackheads that develop on the surface of the skin or just below the surface and have dark centers

What Causes Acne?

Keeping your skin clean may not be enough to prevent acne. Other reasons that teenagers and adults develop acne are:

  • Bacteria
  • Inflammation
  • Excess oil
  • Dirt and debris in the pores

Our skin naturally creates oil to keep the skin hydrated, but many people have too much oil in their skin. Teenagers are especially prone to developing excess oils because of the hormonal changes of puberty, but adults can also have excess oil on their skin. The oil not only traps dirt but also provides an excellent environment for certain types of bacteria that can worsen the acne condition. The bacteria will also trigger inflammation that can lead to blemishes that develop deeper in the skin, such as papules (pimples), pustules and cysts.

What are the Most Common Acne Treatments?

Most patients rely on non-prescription treatments for acne. These types of treatments are available in three general formulations:

  • Treatments that promise rapid treatment, but do not work
  • Treatments that take four to eight weeks to clear the blemishes
  • Treatments that require ongoing use to manage the acne

Acne lesions or blemishes will heal without any intervention, so many treatments are designed to prevent new blemishes and breakouts. The most effective treatments require an evaluation by a trained medical professional who understands skin. Your treatment is based on:

  • Type and severity of acne, including frequency of breakouts
  • Gender
  • Age

Another consideration for women is plans for having children, as the associated hormonal changes will have an effect on your skin.

What Professional Acne Treatments are Available at CPRS Med Spa?

Dr. Peters and our medical aesthetician have identified two safe and effective treatments for teenagers and adults who have acne.

  • HydraFacial® is a serum that is clinically proven to extract impurities from the skin while providing antioxidants, hyaluronic acid, and peptides to protect the skin and improve skin health.
  • Blue light therapy is a type of photodynamic light therapy that is proven to help with acne that is caused by excess oils on the skin. The treatment reduces oil production and destroys acne-causing bacteria.

Our medical aesthetician will also recommend skin care products to help you maintain healthy, beautiful, blemish-free skin.
